On March 27th, the Festive Opening of the anniversary X International Mstislav Rostropovich Festival took place in the Moscow Conservatory

The first concert of the Festival was traditionally held on March 27th – on the birthday of Maestro Rostropovich – on stage of the Conservatory Grand Hall.

The evening opened with a speech by Artistic Director of the Festival Olga Rostropovich. She welcomed the guests, thanked the Department of Culture of the City of Moscow for help during the organization of the Festival. The warmest words were addressed to a great friend and great conductor – Yury Temirkanov, who, together with his brilliant musicians, opened the I Festival in 2010. Two geniuses were tied not only by long-term professional relations, but also by sincere friendship.

Olga Rostropovich expressed hope that “the music that will sound these days at the Festival, at least a little, but will change the world, will make it better, kinder, more beautiful”.

The Festival was opened with a performance by one of the best Russian orchestras – St. Petersburg Philharmonic under the baton of Yuri Temirkanov.

In the first part of the concert, the Ouverture to Weber's opera Euryanthe and Schumann's Cello Concerto in A minor were performed. The cello part was played by the winner of the Mstislav Rostropovich Competition in Paris 1997 Enrico Dindo (Italy). In the encore, Dindo performed Allemande from the Suite No. 6 by Bach. In the second part, the orchestra played Dvořák's Symphony No. 9 From the New World. Salut d'Amour by Elgar was performed in the encore.

The festival will continue on March 29th with the performance of the Madrid Symphony Orchestra in the Conservatory Grand Hall.
